20 minute session

Academic leaders, including principals, directors, and department heads pursue expertise in areas of professional interest in order to enhance teaching and learning within their specific domains. This collective wisdom is a rich resource for schools; when shared, it not only validates an individual's professional expertise, but also provides an opportunity for schools to multiply the benefits of an investment in professional development. In addition to allowing academic leaders to learn from and share expertise with each other, thoughtful collaboration recognizes that professional development is an ongoing, active process, allows for the implementation of research-based ideas to promote effective teaching and learning, and strengthens the capacity for leaders to set an example for their colleagues and provide them with guidance and support.During this session, participants will have an opportunity to review a framework for collaborative learning currently being utilized by academic leaders at Strathcona-Tweedsmuir School, a K-12 World IB School. Now in its fourth cycle, the framework has evolved to include a rubric that academic leaders can use to assess themselves against four measures: Participation, Reflection, Connection, and Implementation. In addition to the framework and rubric, session participants will also learn about the opportunities presented by the framework as well as the challenges that academic leaders at STS are working together to resolve as they continue to invest their time and energy into this meaningful learning opportunity.
